A simple, quick chemical test to determine the Total Hardness of Raw Water.
(Typical values for ordinary tap water would be 40 to 50 drops of this solution to produce a stable foam, deionised or distilled water 5 drops).

To approximately 150ml of water, in a 250ml flask, add a drop of this soap solution to the flask, stopper and shake the flask to create a foam. If no foam created add another drop of soap solution. Repeat until a stable foam fills the flask.
