When used as a macro-etchant, immerse the specimen in the solution which may be heated or not depending upon alloy. Immersion time also depends on the alloy. Rinse in warm water and dry.
This solution can be heated up to 78oC and maintained until desired contrast is achieved.

As a micro-etchant, immerse or Swab for between 5 and 60 seconds.
This solution is made more active by adding a few drops of Sulphuric Acid just before use.

Description

As a micro-etch, this product is ideal for revealing the general structure of high temperature Cobalt and Iron alloys. It is also used for revealing the general structure of pure Nickel and high concentration Nickel alloys, Nickel-Copper and Nickel-Iron alloys. Additionally, it is one of two products indicated for use in determining the grain size of Nickel based Superalloys, and one of three products indicated for use in determining orientation pitting in Nickel-Iron alloys.

As a macro-etch it produces a light etch that is good for determining the general structure of Austenitic stainless steels and high-temperature alloys. It is also used for determining the grain structure (size) of Nickel.
